Privacy notice

Last updated 5 May 2026 · UK regime (UK GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018)

This notice tells you what personal data we process when you use asherwilks.com, why we process it, and what your rights are. It is intended to meet the transparency rules in the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. The UK regulator is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

1. Who we are

The data controller is the person (or small team) responsible for this website. For a family project you should name the adult responsible, for example:

  • Name (controller): [add name]
  • Contact for privacy questions: [add email or postal address]

We do not have a statutory data protection officer. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the ICO (see section 8).

2. What personal data we process

When you browse this site, typical data may include:

  • Technical / usage data: for example IP address, approximate location derived by networks, browser type, date and time of access. This is created when your device contacts our server and our hosting provider.
  • Server logs: our host may log requests for security, abuse prevention, and debugging.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see our Cookies page.

We do not ask you to create an account on this site and we do not deliberately run advertising or behavioural analytics on these pages. If that changes, we will update this notice before or at the time of collection (as required).

3. Third-party services (fonts)

This site loads fonts from Google Fonts (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). Your browser requests font files from Google’s servers; Google may process technical data such as your IP address when that happens. See Google’s privacy information and, if relevant, their terms. You can reduce this by self-hosting fonts (a technical change we may make later).

4. Purposes and lawful bases (UK GDPR)

We process the data above for these purposes:

  • To deliver the website and keep it secure — lawful bases: legitimate interests (operating a small public site, security) and, where strictly necessary, performance of a task in the public interest / legal obligations where the host must retain logs.
  • Non-essential cookies — only if we add them later: lawful basis consent, managed via choice or a banner, as required by PECR alongside UK GDPR.

5. Who we share data with

We use an internet hosting provider to store and serve the site; they act as a processor on our instructions for hosting logs and content. We also rely on Google Fonts as described above. Project links take you to other sites; they are separate controllers.

6. International transfers

Your data may be processed in the UK and, depending on our host and Google’s infrastructure, in other countries. Where personal data leaves the UK, we rely on appropriate transfer mechanisms (for example the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where applicable, standard contractual clauses, or other measures recognised under UK law) as required by the UK GDPR. You can ask us for more detail on transfers relevant to this site.

7. How long we keep information

Hosting logs are kept for whatever period our provider needs for security, operations, and compliance (often a rolling few weeks or months — confirm in your host’s documentation). We do not use this site to build a long-term profile of visitors.

8. Your rights

Depending on the situation, you have rights under the UK GDPR, including:

  • right of access to your personal data;
  • right to rectification of inaccurate data;
  • right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) in certain cases;
  • right to restrict processing in certain cases;
  • right to object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • right to data portability where processing is by consent or contract and automated;
  • rights relating to automated decision-making including profiling — we do not use automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you via this site;
  • where we rely on consent, the right to withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise rights, use the contact details in section 1. You can also complain to the ICO: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.

9. Children

This site showcases creative projects. If you are a child, use the web with a parent or guardian. Parents: if you think we hold personal data about your child that should not be here, contact us and we will address it promptly.

10. Changes

We will update this notice when our processing changes. The Last updated date at the top will always show the latest version. Continued use after changes may be noted in the update where appropriate.
